Slot Glossary
33 terms every slot player should know — explained with Big Bamboo 2 examples where relevant. No marketing jargon.
Autoplay
A setting that spins the reels automatically for a set number of rounds. You pick how many spins and optional stop conditions (like stopping on a bonus trigger or when your balance drops below a threshold). Useful for grinding through base game spins without clicking every time.
Base Game
Regular gameplay before any bonus features trigger. Most of your spins happen here. In high-volatility slots like Big Bamboo 2, the base game usually pays small or nothing — the big wins come from features.
Bonus Buy (Feature Buy)
Lets you skip the base game and jump directly into a bonus round for a fixed cost — usually 50x to 500x your bet. Not available in all jurisdictions; the UK bans it entirely. Check Big Bamboo 2's menu to see if buy options are available in your region.
Cascading Reels (Tumble)
After a win, winning symbols disappear and new ones fall into place. This can chain multiple wins from a single spin. Big Bamboo 2 uses cluster pays with falling-symbol mechanics, so consecutive cascades can stack multiplier badges across the same round.
Cluster Pays
A win mechanic where matching symbols form a connected group rather than lining up on a payline. Big Bamboo 2 uses cluster pays on its 5×5 grid — typically 5+ matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically count as a win.
Dead Spin
A spin that returns absolutely nothing — zero payout. In high-volatility slots like Big Bamboo 2, dead spins are common. That's not a bug; it's how the math model works. Budget accordingly and don't chase losses after a dry streak.
Feature Trigger Rate
How often a bonus feature activates, usually expressed as '1 in X spins.' Big Bamboo 2's Free Spins trigger approximately 1 in 160 base game spins through natural Bamboo scatter landings. You can find these stats in the game's info panel or math sheet from Push Gaming.
Hit Frequency
How often a slot lands any winning combination. A 25% hit frequency means roughly 1 in 4 spins pays something. High-volatility slots like Big Bamboo 2 tend to have lower hit frequencies but larger individual wins.
Max Win
The absolute maximum a slot can pay on a single spin, expressed as a multiplier of your bet. Big Bamboo 2 caps at 50,000x. Once hit, the round ends immediately regardless of remaining features. Most players never reach this — it's a theoretical max win.
Max Win Cap
The absolute ceiling on a single spin's payout. Once reached, the game stops the round immediately — even if you had remaining free spins with multipliers building. Big Bamboo 2 caps at 50,000x. The round ends, your balance updates, and you're back to base game. This cap protects the casino's liability.
Megaways
A mechanic by Big Time Gaming where the number of symbols per reel changes each spin, creating up to 117,649 ways to win. Big Bamboo 2 does NOT use Megaways — it runs on a Cluster Pays system across a 5×5 grid.
Multiplier
A value that multiplies your win. A 10x multiplier on a $5 win = $50 payout. In Big Bamboo 2, Sticky Wild multipliers double every time the Wild contributes to a cluster win — starting at 2x and ranging through 4x, 8x, 16x, all the way up to 512x per Wild during Free Spins.
Paylines
Predefined lines across the reels where matching symbols must land to form a win. Big Bamboo 2 uses Cluster Pays on a 5×5 grid instead of fixed paylines — wins come from connected groups of matching symbols rather than left-to-right lines.
Paytable
The reference chart showing what each symbol pays for different cluster sizes. Access it through the game's info or settings menu. Premium symbols always pay more than card symbols (A, K, Q, J, 10).
RNG (Random Number Generator)
The algorithm that determines every spin outcome. Certified by independent labs (like eCOGRA, iTech Labs, GLI) to ensure fairness. Each spin is completely independent — previous results have zero influence on future ones. There's no such thing as a slot being 'due' for a win.
RTP (Return to Player)
The theoretical percentage of wagered money a slot returns over millions of spins. Big Bamboo 2 has an RTP of 96.7%. That doesn't mean you'll get back that exact percentage in your session — it's a long-term statistical average. Short sessions can deviate wildly in either direction.
Scatter
A special symbol that triggers features regardless of its position on the grid — it doesn't need to land on a specific payline. In Big Bamboo 2, 3+ Bamboo scatters trigger Free Spins. More scatters mean more spins (3 = 8, 4 = 10, 5 = 12, 6+ = 15).
Session Variance
The gap between your actual results and the theoretical RTP. Big Bamboo 2 has 96.7% RTP, but a 500-spin session can return anywhere from 40% to 180% of your wager. That's normal. Don't judge a slot's fairness from a single session — you need thousands of spins for results to converge toward the published RTP.
Sticky Wild
A Wild symbol that stays in place for multiple spins instead of disappearing after one round. In Big Bamboo 2, Sticky Wilds activate during Free Spins — every Panda Wild that lands locks into position and starts doubling its multiplier badge with each cluster win it joins.
Volatility (Variance)
How a slot's payouts are distributed. High volatility = rare but large wins, long dry spells. Low volatility = frequent small wins, steadier balance. Big Bamboo 2 is rated High volatility. Expect patience-testing base game stretches punctuated by explosive feature hits.
Ways to Win
An alternative to paylines where matching symbols on adjacent reels (left to right) count as wins regardless of row position. Big Bamboo 2 uses Cluster Pays instead — wins form from clusters of touching matching symbols rather than reel-by-reel chains.
Wild
A symbol that substitutes for any regular symbol to complete winning combinations. It doesn't replace scatters or other special symbols. In Big Bamboo 2, the Panda Wild carries a 2x multiplier in base game and transforms into a Sticky Multiplier Wild during Free Spins.
Win Distribution
How a slot's total payouts are spread across different win sizes. High-volatility slots like Big Bamboo 2 are 'top-heavy' — a small percentage of spins account for most of the total payout. Neither distribution is better; they suit different player preferences and bankroll sizes.
Bonus Buy Restrictions
Some countries ban the ability to purchase bonus rounds directly. The UK prohibits bonus buy since October 2021. Sweden caps bet sizes. Other markets have similar rules. In Big Bamboo 2, the 100x and 500x buy options may be greyed out or hidden depending on where you're playing.
Sticky Multiplier Wilds
Big Bamboo 2's headline mechanic. During Free Spins, every Panda Wild that lands sticks in position and starts at a 2x multiplier badge. Each cluster win using that Wild doubles its value: 2x → 4x → 8x → 16x and onward up to 512x. When multiple Sticky Wilds participate in the same cluster, their multipliers combine — that's the path to the 50,000x ceiling.
Panda Wild
The premium Wild in Big Bamboo 2. In base play it doubles any cluster it joins (a 2x symbol multiplier). During Free Spins it transforms — every Panda that drops sticks immediately and starts its own doubling chain. It's also the bridge symbol that makes the bonus round's exponential math possible.
Push Gaming
The studio behind Big Bamboo 2. Push Gaming is known for high-volatility slots with extreme max win caps and creative bonus structures. Their releases include Razor Shark, Wild Swarm, and the original Big Bamboo. Big Bamboo 2 is the sequel, raising the ceiling from 5,000x to 50,000x.
Free Spins Mechanics
Big Bamboo 2's headline bonus round. Trigger with 3+ Bamboo scatters: 3 awards 8 spins, 4 gives 10, 5 gives 12, and 6+ unlocks 15 spins. Sticky Wilds activate here — every Panda that lands locks in and starts doubling. Re-trigger by landing 3+ more scatters mid-feature for an extra 5 spins.
50,000x Max Win
Big Bamboo 2's headline ceiling. Reaching 50,000x requires several Sticky Wilds with high-tier multiplier badges (x128, x256, or x512) all participating in the same late-bonus cluster. Push Gaming priced this max win to be theoretically possible but rare — most Free Spins sessions cap out far below it.
Bonus Buy Tiers
Big Bamboo 2 offers two purchase routes. Standard Buy at 100x bet enters Free Spins with normal scatter-equivalent conditions. Super Buy at 500x bet starts you with 12 spins AND three pre-loaded x4 Sticky Wilds already on the grid. Both tiers maintain 96.7% RTP — you're paying for variance reduction, not better math.
Cluster Pays Grid
Big Bamboo 2's 5×5 grid uses cluster pays — wins come from groups of 5 or more matching symbols touching horizontally or vertically. Larger clusters pay proportionally more. Wilds can participate in multiple clusters simultaneously on the same spin, which is what makes Sticky Wild multipliers compound so aggressively.
Multiplier Compounding
In Big Bamboo 2, when a cluster crosses multiple Sticky Wilds during Free Spins, all their individual multipliers combine for that win. A cluster paying 10x base, crossing Wilds at x32 and x64, multiplies to 20,480x for that single cluster. This is the mechanic that makes 50,000x reachable.
Bamboo Scatter
The trigger symbol for Free Spins in Big Bamboo 2. Bamboo scatters land anywhere on the 5×5 grid and don't need to align — 3 scatters award 8 spins, 4 give 10, 5 give 12, and 6+ unlock 15 spins. Mid-feature re-triggers with 3+ Bamboo scatters add 5 more spins without resetting accumulated Sticky Wild multipliers.
